ST-91 Buffalo - Turf Grass

ST-91 Buffalo Turf Grass

Scientific Name: Stenotaphrum Secundatum.

Buffalo Turf grass is the common name in Australia, and it is otherwise known as St Augustine grass in America.

Origin: ST91 Buffalo is a hybridised improved turf grass variety of the shade tolerant species Stenotaphrum Secundatum (“Buffalo grass”) developed by H&T Whiting Turfgrass Development.

ST91 Buffalo – named “The Princess Of Soft Leaf Buffalo” by its promoters, suppliers and turf growers – is a turf grass that deceives with a beautiful green appearance yet is very intolerant of broadleaf weed herbicides registered for use on all buffalo turf. ST91 Buffalo is a specially formulated, finer-leafed dwarf variety which retains its green colour in the winter. ST91 is suited to full sun but can tolerate 20%-80% shade. With its fine consistent texture, this turf can make a show piece front lawn. Because ST91 Buffalo is the slowest growing turf on the market it only requires ½ the mowing of any other buffalo variety. It is recommended for medium traffic areas.

From experience ST91 Buffalo cannot safely be sprayed for broad leaf weeds such as bindii, oxalis, clover, flat weed and dandelion without causing serious damage to the desirable turf grass (in this case being the ST91 turf). Other Buffalo turf like Sir Walter, Kings Pride, Matilda and all the other Australian Buffalo grasses are completely tolerant of (registered) herbicide treatment.
