Canola Clearfield Varieties and Clearfield Juncea Canola

Choice of crop variety is a key element of success of any field cropping activity.

Canola varieties are classified into types that offer unique herbicide resistances as well as a range of yield, quality and disease resistance or tolerance.

The following is a brief comparison of the key attributes of most varieties available for sowing in Victoria in 2011.

CLEARFIELD VARIETIES

Clearfield - 43C80 *

Early maturing variety which Pioneer indicate has good early vigour, high yield potential and moderate oil content. Suited to low rainfall areas and as a potential late sowing option in medium-high rainfall areas. Blackleg resistance rating MS. Tested as NS6108BI. Bred and marketed by Pioneer Hi-Bred.

Clearfield - 44C79 *

Early to early-mid maturing variety. Pioneer indicate exceptional early vigour and high oil content. Blackleg resistance rating of MS. Replaces 44C73 and extends growing zone into northern Wimmera districts. Released in 2008. Tested as NS6082BI. Bred and marketed by Pioneer Hi-Bred.

Hybrid Clearfield – 44Y84 *

Early to early-mid season maturing variety. Pioneer indicate hybrid vigour suits this variety to minimum tillage systems and has high oil content. Good blackleg resistance rating of R-MR (provisional). Released 2011. Bred and marketed by Pioneer Hi-Bred.

Hybrid Clearfield – 45Y82*

Early-mid maturing hybrid best suited to medium rainfall zones. Pioneer indicate high yielding with shorter height and good standing ability. Performed well in Victoria in 2009 NVT trials. Blackleg resistance rating MR. Coded 06N785I. Tested in NVT trials in 2009 for the first time. Bred and marketed by Pioneer Hi-Bred.

Hybrid Clearfield – 46Y83*

Mid to mid-early maturing hybrid. Pioneer indicate excellent early vigour, high yield with very high oil content. Targeted to replace 46Y81 in high rainfall zones. Blackleg resistance rating of R. Coded 06N788I. Tested in NVT trials in 2009 for the first time. Bred and marketed by Pioneer Hi-Bred.

Hybrid Clearfield – Hyola® 571CL *

Early to mid maturing hybrid with similar maturity to 45Y77. Pacific Seeds indicate very good early vigour with good oil and yield potential. Blackleg resistance rating of R. Tested as K9209. Bred and marketed by Pacific Seeds.

Hybrid Clearfield – Hyola® 575CL *

Mid to mid-early season maturity. Pacific seeds indicate this variety is targeted at the high rainfall regions. Good blackleg resistance rating of R (provisional). Tested as K9317. Bred and marketed by Pacific Seeds.

Hybrid Clearfield – Hyola® 676CL *

Mid season maturity. Pacific seeds indicate this variety has adaptation to medium-low to very high rainfall regions. Good blackleg resistance rating of MR-R (Provisional).

CLEARFIELD JUNCEA CANOLA VARIETIES

Clearfield Juncea Canola - Oasis CL *

First herbicide tolerant low-rainfall juncea canola variety in Australia. Suited to areas with rainfall below 350mm. Pacific Seeds indicate this mid maturing variety has good protein, oil content and unique disease resistance to blackleg, rated R. Excellent pod shatter resistance allows for direct heading. Seed quality as good as or slightly better than Dune. Tested as - J05Z-8920. Bred by Vic DPI/Viterra and marketed by Viterra.
